A decade ago, a peculiar alien named PK landed on Earth, not to conquer, but to find his lost remote control. What followed was a hilarious, thought-provoking journey that questioned societal norms. The movie that made its entry to the Television through Sony MAX, will be celebrating its 10th anniversary. To celebrate a decade of one of the most-loved films, the channel will be airing PK on 19th December at 08:00 PM.
Let us revisit the team's journey that brought this beloved film to life.
The inception of ‘PK’ - PK, a character who balanced humour and social commentary, required a striking look that stood out. Director Rajkumar Hirani recalls his nervousness as he approached Aamir for it. He shares, “The first time I approached Aamir, I was nervous about his reaction. But he did not react to it at all, and I understood that Aamir would do the role with conviction.” He further added, “Even before we started shooting, Aamir asked me how the alien’s body would look. I think he should not have body hair; I will get waxing done.” And he ensured that before every scene he got himself waxed.
Aamir Khan’s pan-tastic moment - Aamir Khan’s character in PK had too many quirks, the most popular being the constant chewing of the paan, giving him a paan-lipstick look. Talking about the look, Aamir shares, “I got sick from chewing so many paans. I had to chew 60 to 100 paans the entire day. Every take required me to have a paan. Because of this, I started getting blisters in my mouth.”
‘Rangilo mehman’ costumes - Would you believe it if someone said that for a particular film, the lead actor did not have any costumes specifically made for him? Yes, as unbelievable as it may sound, this happened with our PK aka Aamir Khan. The actor shares, “Actually in the film no costumes were specifically designed for me. The team went to Rajasthan. Whenever they would spot any local wearing good clothes, they would ask for it in exchange for money or a new set of clothes.” This is what added authenticity to the character of PK in the movie!
Jagath Janani - Rajkumar Hirani is known for his unique approach to character naming. One such instance is the role of Jagath Janani, affectionately known as Jaggu, portrayed by Anushka Sharma. While getting a unique name makes people remember the character, the look plays an important role too. To make a convincing Jaggu, Anushka had to undergo a series of look tests. Sharing more insights, she mentioned, “I was told that when people see me in the film, they should see a different Anushka, and I feel for an actress if you change the hairstyle, it makes a big difference. We tried many wigs and finally, the one that seemed perfect transformed my look drastically.”
Don’t forget to tune in to Sony MAX to celebrate PK on 19th December at 08:00 PM.
